What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a Swiss made injectable cosmetic filler that can be used to restore facial volume lost due to aging or illness. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic substance that stimulates collagen production. It can be used to treat deep lines, creases, and folds to give a more youthful appearance.

How Does Sculptra Work?

With age, your skin's natural collagen supply decreases and you may start to notice wrinkles and facial aging.

Activate the skin’s natural regenerative process with Sculptra Aesthetic and help replenish lost collagen 1-3, the most common protein in the body that supports cells and tissue. This FDA-approved injectable subtly and gradually over time helps restore facial volume for results that can last more than two years

Sculptra Aesthetic is made with biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps to rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments administered by a trained specialist.

Not all anti-aging treatments are the same:

Collagen Creams: Collagen Creams do not fully penetrate the dermis, so most topical treatments are effective as moisturizers that briefly improve the skin's appearance.

Collagen Supplements: When ingested, the digestive system breaks down collagen proteins and their effectiveness remains inconclusive.

As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic helps restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin to diminish facial wrinkles.

Sculptra Aesthetic works with your body within the deep dermis to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume.

As the Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production.

Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

How Long Does it Take to See Results?

The specialist injects treatment within the deep dermis, where strands of collagen support your skin's structure. Over time, Sculptra Aesthetic helps the body reproduce lost collagen. The number of injection appointments and the number of injections per appointment varies from person to person, depending on how much collagen has been lost. On average, three injection appointments are needed over a period of a few months.

Sculptra Aesthetic should not be used by people that are allergic to any ingredient of the product or have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. Safety has not been established in patients who are pregnant, lactating, breastfeeding, or under 18 years of age.

Sculptra Aesthetic has unique injection requirements and should only be used by a trained healthcare practitioner. Contour deficiencies should not be overcorrected because they are expected to gradually improve after treatment.

What are the possible Side-effects?

The most common side effects after initial treatment include injection site swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching, and lumps. Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported.

Sculptra Aesthetic is available only through a licensed practitioner.

After Treatment Care is KEY to the best outcome of your treatment

Whether you treated your face or your body, the Sculptra after-care instructions are the same. To insure the best possible results, please follow these after-care tips:

  • 5-5-5 Rule

Massage the treated-areas for 5-minutes, 5-times a day, for 5-days after treatment. This “massage” should consist of mid-pressure rubbing all along the injection sites. (These areas might be sore immediately following the treatment, but it is still important to massage the areas anyway.)

  • Ice!

Within the first 24-hours after your treatment, you should apply an ice-pack, frozen bag of vegetables, or ice wrapped in a towel (try to avoid putting ice directly on your skin) to the treatment areas to help reduce any swelling.

  • Makeup

If desired, you are welcome to apply makeup a few hours after your Sculptra Aesthetic treatment (as long as no complications are present).

  • Sun Exposure

Please avoid direct exposure to the sun, tanning, and UV sunlamps until any swelling and redness have dissipated.

A few days after your treatment, you may notice that you look the same as you did before treatment.

  • Don’t worry! This is normal, and temporary.
  • Sculptra Aesthetic works to gradually replace your lost collagen
  • Visible results appear about 2-weeks after the second treatment.

I will suggest how many treatments I expect you’ll need to achieve your desired results. Please understand that this is an educated estimate, and depending on how your body responds to treatment you may need slightly more or less than initially advised. My goal is to make you happy, and I will give you as realistic expectations as possible.
